About Artery Forceps

Choose by jaw, teeth and size. Crile jaws are serrated along their full length; Kelly jaws only on the front half. Rochester-Ochsner (Kocher) forceps end in 1×2 teeth for a firmer hold on tough tissue. Halsted mosquito and micro patterns are the smallest; Rochester-Pean the heaviest. Right-angled forceps such as Mixter and Meeker reach around a vessel to pass a ligature. Jaws are straight or curved, and lengths run from 10 to 35 cm across this group. Artery forceps are not made to hold suture needles; for that, see Surgical Needle Holders.
