About Thumb Forceps

Thumb forceps are held like a pen and close under finger pressure. Toothed tissue forceps, written as 1×2 or 2×3 teeth, hold skin and tougher tissue firmly; smooth or serrated dressing forceps handle dressings and delicate tissue. DeBakey forceps have atraumatic jaws for vessels. Adson forceps are short and fine; Brown-Adson forceps have rows of small teeth (7×7) at the tip. Cushing and Gerald forceps are longer and fine, also in bayonet form for narrow fields. Jeweler and micro forceps have the smallest tips. Lengths run from about 9 to 40 cm.
