Description
This set holds the instruments a normal vaginal delivery calls for: clamping and cutting the cord, an episiotomy if one is needed, and suturing afterwards. Two Kocher forceps clamp the cord, and the Busch scissors cut it.
The set has two pairs of scissors. The angled Braun-Stadler cuts the episiotomy, and the curved Busch cuts the cord. Delivery kits from relief organisations such as MSF keep these two jobs on separate scissors too. A Mayo-Hegar needle holder, tissue forceps and dressing forceps cover the repair. The Foerster sponge forceps holds swabs, the amniotic hook ruptures the membranes, and the kidney dish holds the instruments or the placenta.
Several of these instruments are also sold on their own in our shop. Supplied non-sterile: clean and sterilise before use.

Care and use
Before first use
The instruments are supplied non-sterile. Clean and sterilise them before first use, then check each one: tips meet, scissor blades close smoothly, and ratchets hold and release smoothly.
Cleaning
Clean each instrument as soon as possible after use so nothing dries on. Use a neutral (pH 7) instrument detergent with joints and jaws open; an ultrasonic cleaner reaches joints and ratchets best. Rinse well, ideally in distilled water, and dry completely.
Lubricating and sterilising
Before sterilising, treat the joint with a water-soluble instrument lubricant. Sterilise it with the ratchet unlocked and the jaws open, following your steriliser's instructions and your facility's process: instruments locked shut can crack at the joint.
What to avoid
Saline, bleach and other chloride solutions cause pitting and corrosion in stainless steel. Don't soak or rinse the instrument in them, and keep it apart from instruments made of other metals during cleaning.
