About Dissectors and Elevators

Septum elevators such as Freer, Cottle and Killian lift the mucosa off the septal cartilage; suction elevators (Gorney, Haraldsson) also clear blood as they work. Periosteal elevators, including Freer, Langenbeck and Dingman, lift periosteum from bone, and Gillies, Dingman and Rowe elevators lift the zygomatic arch. Cleft palate elevators have small angled blades. Long breast dissectors, such as Tebbetts and MacCollum-Dingman, and the Lockwood underminer open tissue planes in breast and abdominal surgery. Each listing gives the blade width, shape and length.
