Description
The Yankauer is a rigid suction tube with an angled shaft and a rounded, bulb-shaped tip. The rounded tip lets you clear blood, secretions and other fluid from the mouth, throat or operative field without catching soft tissue in the opening.
Choose the adult tube, 27 cm, or the slimmer child size, 21 cm, which has a removable tip. Both connect to suction tubing at the handle end. Unlike plastic Yankauers, they are cleaned and sterilised for reuse.
After use, flush the tube with water and clean the inside with a tube brush before you sterilise it, so nothing dries inside; take the tip off the child size to clean it. Supplied non-sterile.

Care and use
Before first use
It is supplied non-sterile. Clean and sterilise it before first use, then check that the tips meet evenly when you close it.
Cleaning
Clean it as soon as possible after use so nothing dries on. Use a neutral (pH 7) instrument detergent and a soft brush on the tips and serrations. Rinse well, ideally in distilled water, and dry completely.
What to avoid
Saline, bleach and other chloride solutions cause pitting and corrosion in stainless steel. Don't soak or rinse the instrument in them, and keep it apart from instruments made of other metals during cleaning.
