Description
Baby Metzenbaum scissors are the short, 12.5 cm version of the Metzenbaum, for fine dissection in hand, plastic and other small-field surgery. The short length keeps the tips close to your fingers for control.
Choose straight or curved blades. For the full-length pattern, 15 to 26 cm, see the Metzenbaum dissecting scissors.
Store them closed and use them only on the material they are made for, so the edges stay sharp. They are supplied non-sterile: clean and sterilise them before use.

Care and use
Before first use
They are supplied non-sterile. Clean and sterilise them before first use, then check that the tips meet and the blades close smoothly along their length.
Cleaning
Clean them as soon as possible after use so nothing dries on. Use a neutral (pH 7) instrument detergent with the blades open; an ultrasonic cleaner reaches the joint best. Rinse well, ideally in distilled water, and dry completely.
Lubricating and sterilising
Before sterilising, treat the joint with a water-soluble instrument lubricant. Sterilise them with the blades slightly open, following your steriliser's instructions and your facility's process.
What to avoid
Saline, bleach and other chloride solutions cause pitting and corrosion in stainless steel. Don't soak or rinse the instrument in them, and keep it apart from instruments made of other metals during cleaning.
