Description
This is the Crile artery forceps with 1×2 teeth at the tip: one tooth on one jaw fits between two on the other. The jaws keep the Crile's transverse serrations along their full length, and the teeth add a firmer, non-slip hold.
For the version without teeth, see the standard Crile artery forceps. The Kocher (Rochester-Ochsner) forceps also has 1×2 teeth, in lengths up to 35 cm.
A ratchet between the finger rings keeps the jaws closed until you release it. Choose straight or curved jaws in 14 or 16 cm; they are sold in packs of 2. It is supplied non-sterile: clean and sterilise it before use.

Care and use
Before first use
It is supplied non-sterile. Clean and sterilise it before first use, then check that the jaw tips meet and that the ratchet holds and releases smoothly.
Cleaning
Clean it as soon as possible after use so nothing dries on. Use a neutral (pH 7) instrument detergent with the jaws open; an ultrasonic cleaner reaches the joint and ratchet best. Rinse well, ideally in distilled water, and dry completely.
Lubricating and sterilising
Before sterilising, treat the joint with a water-soluble instrument lubricant. Sterilise it with the ratchet unlocked and the jaws open, following your steriliser's instructions and your facility's process: instruments locked shut can crack at the joint.
What to avoid
Saline, bleach and other chloride solutions cause pitting and corrosion in stainless steel. Don't soak or rinse the instrument in them, and keep it apart from instruments made of other metals during cleaning.
