Facelift and eyelid work alternate constantly between two tasks that need opposite jaw surfaces. Holding a skin edge under traction needs teeth that interlock through it. Managing the suture that closes it needs a surface that grips a filament without an edge anywhere near it. Putting extremely fine 1×2 teeth at the tip and diamond dust behind them gives the surgeon both without an instrument change.
The dusted area doubles as the tying platform, which is where most of a closure actually happens — the thread is drawn across it and tensioned repeatedly. Diamond dust grips that by microscopic roughness over an area, with no edge to nick the filament. Keeping the teeth extremely fine is the other half: on facial skin that will be visible for life, the mark left by the instrument holding it matters as much as the incision itself.
