Single-sided is the useful detail. Only one face of this working end is active, which means the opposite face can be laid against tissue that must not be abraded — the instrument can be pressed against a nerve, a vessel or a mucosal surface on its inert side while the working side scrapes bone a millimetre away. A double-sided raspatory offers no safe face and has to be held clear of everything it is not working on.
The bend carries that single working face around a corner, so it can meet the underside of a bony edge or the far wall of a socket — surfaces that a straight raspatory can only reach at its tip. At 55.0 × 4.0 mm the end is long and narrow: enough length to work along a bone rather than at one spot, narrow enough to enter a confined space. The 6.0 mm option covers work where a broader stroke is wanted.
