A crusher and a dicer do opposite jobs. Dicing breaks cartilage into discrete fragments; the Tschoepe crusher compresses a graft uniformly so that it softens and accepts a curve while remaining one continuous piece. That distinction matters when the graft has to hold a shape — a dorsal onlay or a contoured strut needs internal continuity to resist folding at a weak point.
Even compression across the full plate is what produces that uniformity. Pressure concentrated at one point would soften that spot and leave the rest springy, so the graft would bend only where it was crushed. Solid German stainless steel construction keeps the plates flat under repeated heavy loading — a plate that dishes even slightly stops crushing evenly.
