At this scale the instrument’s own weight stops being negligible. A steel jeweler forceps weighs little in absolute terms, but the movements it is making are fractions of a millimetre, and the hand supporting that weight is the same hand trying to hold still. Halving it measurably reduces how much the fingers have to work against, which shows up as steadiness late in a long procedure rather than at the start.
Curving the points adds the second advantage: the tips meet the work while the shafts stay out of the sightline, so the surgeon looks past the instrument rather than around it. That matters under magnification, where the field of view is narrow and anything crossing it costs real information. The straight titanium version of this pattern gives a finer point instead; the curve is the trade for visibility.
