The Tebbetts-Style Septal Grasping Forceps exists because of one problem in rhinoplasty: septal cartilage harvested in fragments is far less useful than cartilage harvested whole. A large intact graft can be carved into a spreader, a columellar strut or a dorsal onlay; the same cartilage in three pieces cannot. Fragmentation happens when the forceps grip slips mid-extraction and the surgeon re-grips under load.
Tungsten carbide serrated jaws address that directly. TC is substantially harder than stainless and holds its serration profile, so the grip stays positive through the twisting, rocking extraction that frees a septal or ethmoid plate. The same jaws serve for removing deviated septum, vomer and ethmoid segments, and for compressing turbinates during submucous resection.
