Style 2 exists because fine points bend. A Style 1 taper runs slim all the way back, which gives the finest possible point and also the least material to resist deflection — press it against anything firmer than expected and the point takes a set it never fully recovers from. Style 2 keeps a fine tip but thickens the taper behind it, so the same point survives contact with tissue that resists.
The trade is deliberate and worth stating: Style 2 is fractionally less fine at the very tip than Style 1. That is the right exchange for work where the forceps will meet fibrous tissue, a suture under tension or a graft that has to be pushed as well as held — and the wrong one for the most delicate handling, where Style 1 remains the finer instrument.
