The Obwegeser Nasal Saddle Punch is the longest instrument in the nasal punch range at 21 cm, and that length defines where it is used. Maxillofacial approaches to the nose — through a Le Fort osteotomy, a degloving incision or an intraoral route — place the target considerably further from the surgeon’s hand than a transnasal approach does. A standard 16–18 cm instrument runs out of reach.
The saddle profile of the punch head is shaped to sit astride a bony ridge or septal edge, so the bite is taken from a defined margin rather than from a flat surface where the punch could skid. Multiple bite sizes allow the surgeon to match removal volume to the correction required.
