The Noyes Nasal Dressing & Tissue Forceps uses an alligator action — the jaws open and close at the tip while the shaft stays rigid — so the instrument occupies minimal space in the nostril during the grip. A conventional scissor-type forceps swings its whole body to open, which in a narrow nasal cavity means contacting the septum or lateral wall before the jaws are wide enough to take the target.
The 4.0 × 14.0 mm serrated jaw handles both dressing material and tissue. Where serration alone slips — on dense fibrous tissue or a firm polyp — the optional 1×2 toothed configuration provides positive mechanical engagement instead of friction grip.
