Semi-sharp outer edges turn this into two instruments. Closed and pushed into tissue, the rounded outer profile spreads a plane bluntly without dividing it — the standard way of developing the soft tissue envelope over the nasal dorsum, where sharp dissection risks buttonholing thin skin. Opened, the inner edges cut. The surgeon dissects and divides without swapping instruments or looking away from the field.
The serration on the blade addresses a specific problem with cartilage: it is smooth, firm and slippery, and plain blades tend to push a graft ahead of the cut rather than through it. Serrations hold the tissue at the point of contact so the cut begins where it was placed. At 19 cm the scissors reach the dorsum from a columellar incision with the hand well clear of the operative view.
