The Lucae Ear Dressing Forceps is designed for the mechanical task of placing, repositioning and removing ear canal dressings, wicks and packing. At 14 cm overall length it is substantially longer than the 8 cm micro forceps used for tissue work—the extra length exists because dressing tasks often happen in the outpatient setting without a microscope, and the surgeon’s hand needs to be far enough from the patient’s head to see past it.
The tapered serrated jaws grip gauze, cotton and wick material securely. The serration is coarse enough to hold fibrous dressing material but not so aggressive that it tears it, which would leave fragments in the canal.
