The Lubet-Barbon Nasal Polypus Forceps is longer than most polyp forceps at 20 cm, and the reason is anatomical. Antrochoanal polyps and other posteriorly-arising polyps extend backward toward the choana and nasopharynx. A 17 cm instrument reaches the middle meatus comfortably but runs short at the posterior choana, forcing the surgeon to grasp the polyp body rather than its origin — which leaves the base behind to recur.
The jaws grip polypoid tissue securely enough for the sustained traction that avulses a polyp at its stalk, while the slender shaft profile keeps the nasal corridor open for the endoscope alongside it.
