10 cm is very short for a surgical instrument, and inside the nose that is the point. The structures being lifted — the alar rim, the vestibular lining, the lower lateral cartilages — sit within a couple of centimetres of the nostril opening, so reach is irrelevant. What matters is that the tips move exactly as far as the fingers move them, and a short shaft is what delivers that one-to-one control.
The two tips are set at different sizes, 14 mm and 10 mm, so the hook engages either a broader span of the rim or a single precise point without changing instruments. Both are sharp, which is necessary rather than aggressive: nasal skin and mucosa are smooth and wet, and a blunt tip slides off the moment traction is applied. A sharp point placed at the rim holds through a septoplasty or rhinoplasty without repeated re-seating, which is what actually keeps entry marks to a minimum.
