Removing a suture is a different problem from placing one. The knot has been sitting in healing tissue, often for days, and the thread has to be lifted clear so it can be cut without the jaws pressing on skin that is still tender and newly closed. Smooth jaws are essential — any serration or tooth grips the surrounding skin as readily as the suture and marks a wound that has just finished healing.
The raised platform and the angle solve the access half. Raising the jaws above the shaft line lets them slide under a knot lying flat against the skin, and angling them keeps the surgeon’s hand and the instrument body out of the small area being worked on. At 10.5 cm it is short and finger-held — appropriate for eye and hand surgery, where the sutures are fine and the tissue around them is the reason for the care.
