This instrument carries two jaw surfaces because reshaping the lower lateral cartilage involves two separate manoeuvres. The longitudinal jaw has semi-sharp tungsten carbide ridges that partially incise the cartilage along its length, allowing it to be folded to a new angle while the far cortex stays continuous — the cartilage takes the fold rather than fracturing at it. The morselizer jaw carries large pyramid-shaped tungsten carbide teeth that crush the cartilage until it behaves like membrane, for pieces meant to drape and fill rather than hold a defined edge.
At 18 cm the instrument reaches the lower lateral crura through a limited rhinoplasty exposure while leaving the surgeon’s hand clear of the operative field. Tungsten carbide on both faces is not decorative: the semi-sharp ridges lose their function entirely once dulled, and carbide holds that edge geometry through repeated sterilisation far longer than hardened steel does.
