Nipple position and areola outline are two different decisions, and this marker addresses the first. Where the nipple sits on the reconstructed breast determines whether the result reads as natural — an areola of perfect size in the wrong position looks wrong, while a slight difference in areola diameter rarely does. Marking that position accurately, and identically on both sides, is what the instrument is for.
Two sizes rather than seven follows from that. Position markers are used to place and verify a point, not to set an outline scaled to breast volume, so the range only needs to cover standard and large anatomy. J2 stainless is a harder grade, which keeps the marking edge crisp — a rounded edge transfers a fuzzy mark, and a fuzzy mark defeats the purpose of measuring the position in the first place.
