A rake spreads its hold across several points instead of one, which is what lets it retract a skin edge under real tension without tearing through it. Four prongs divide the load four ways, so each engages lightly. The prongs are finely pointed rather than stout for the same reason a fine hook is preferred on skin — a slender point enters cleanly and leaves almost nothing behind.
What makes this the mini pattern is the 12 cm length and the spacing that comes with it. A full-size rake holds a longer stretch of wound edge but needs the room to sit across it; in a small incision it simply cannot be placed square, and one or two of its prongs end up carrying everything. Matching the rake to the size of the wound is what keeps the load genuinely shared across all four points.
