This set skips the smaller diameters and starts at 38 mm, which is the point of it. Augmentation and reconstruction generally produce a larger breast volume than a reduction does, and an areola scaled to that volume sits toward the upper half of the size range. A set assembled around 38 to 50 mm covers that work directly, where a set centred lower would leave the surgeon reaching for the one size it does not include.
Four markers also allow a size to be tried and rejected. A diameter can be laid on, compared against the opposite side and swapped for the next up or down before anything is drawn — which only works if the next size is on the tray. The 5 mm step between 40 and 45, and again to 50, is wider than the increments in the seven-size range; this set trades that granularity for a compact working selection.
