At 20 cm this is a noticeably longer hook than the 14 to 15 cm facial patterns, and the extra length changes what it is for. A short hook is held in the fingers close to shallow tissue; a 20 cm shaft lets the surgeon engage tissue at the bottom of a deeper wound while the hand stays above the wound edge, out of the light and clear of the other instruments working in the same opening.
The 7 mm hook is a middle size, and that is deliberate for a general-purpose instrument. A smaller hook engages a fine edge but pulls through anything heavier; a much larger one holds bulk tissue but is too coarse for a skin margin. 7 mm holds a fascial edge, a flap or a vessel sheath equally well, which is why this pattern appears in general sets rather than in one speciality tray. The finish is smooth so it releases without dragging.
