The Craig Septum Forceps uses finger-ring handles rather than a spring-tweezers or scissor grip. That matters during septal manipulation, where the surgeon may need to hold a firm, sustained grasp while applying rotational or bending force. Rings lock the hand to the instrument; a spring grip has to be actively squeezed the whole time and slips when the hand tires.
The blades are long and straight, terminating in solid blunt jaws — no teeth, no cutting edge. Blunt jaws hold septal cartilage and mucoperichondrium without perforating them, which is why this pattern is often chosen for younger patients, where the septal tissue is thinner and more easily torn.
