Converse (Green) Eye Fixation Forceps, 10.2 cm – 3 Jaw Sizes

The eye is a sphere sitting in fat, free to rotate in every direction, and it moves away from any instrument touching it. Fixation forceps solve that first problem before any other step: the jaws take hold at the limbus — the junction of cornea and sclera — and the globe is then held in one orientation while the surgeon works. Without that, the target rotates under the instrument.

Three jaw widths exist because the amount of sclera available to grip varies with the approach and the incision. A 5 mm jaw takes a small purchase where the working area must stay clear; 13 mm spreads the same holding force over more tissue, which matters when the globe has to be held against real rotational force. The teeth are fine throughout — sclera is tough enough to need them and thin enough that coarse teeth would perforate.
