Diamond dust is a different mechanism from teeth or serrations. Instead of shaped metal biting into material, the jaw carries a bonded layer of fine diamond particles, giving a surface that is rough at a microscopic scale over its whole area. That grips things too fine or too smooth for any tooth to engage — a monofilament suture, a needle held mid-shaft, the wet surface of a graft.
Pairing it with Brown-type teeth covers both problems at once: the teeth hold tissue, the dusted surface holds everything that is not tissue. The enlarged handle is part of the same design. Under magnification the surgeon’s movements shrink to fractions of a millimetre, and a broader handle gives more of the hand in contact with the instrument — which steadies it, where a thin handle would transmit every tremor straight to the tip.
