The Blakesley Septum Forceps uses a serrated jaw where most septum forceps in this range use a smooth cup. The difference shows during withdrawal: a cup contains a specimen, but if the surgeon needs to rock or twist a bone fragment free before extracting it, a smooth cup lets the fragment rotate inside the jaw. Serrations lock it in place so the applied force actually reaches the fragment.
The 6.0 × 12.0 mm jaw is elongated, suiting the strip-shaped pieces of septal cartilage and perpendicular plate that come out of a septoplasty. At 10.1 cm shaft and 19 cm overall it matches the standard endoscopic septal working range.
