The case for the set rather than a single marker is that the size is chosen on the table. Breast volume, skin envelope and how the tissue actually sits once the patient is positioned are all clearer in theatre than in the clinic — and a surgeon holding one template has already committed to a decision that is better made with the field in front of them. Four sizes mean the choice stays open until it has to be made.
They also allow a size to be tried and rejected. A template can be laid on, assessed against the opposite side and swapped for the next size up or down before anything is drawn, which is only possible if the next size is within reach. The 36 to 45 mm span covers the usual working range, and the included solution container keeps the markers wetted with marking solution so each outline transfers cleanly rather than patchily.
