About Laryngoscopes

The Macintosh blade is curved and lifts the epiglottis from in front; the Miller blade is straight and lifts it directly; the McCoy blade has a hinged tip moved by a lever on the handle. Conventional blades carry the lamp on the blade, while fiber-optic blades take light from a lamp in the handle, so the handle must match the blade type. Single-use blades and laryngoscopes are used once. Sets come with 5 or 7 blades, and handles are listed in adult, pediatric and stubby sizes.
