At 108 mm overall with blades measured in single millimetres of depth, this is a miniature retractor. Both ends are narrow — 3 mm and 6 mm deep — which suits work where the tissue being held back is only a few millimetres thick: a skin and subcutaneous edge, a small flap, a superficial plane in hand or facial surgery. A deeper blade in the same place simply bottoms out against tissue it was never meant to reach.
The difference between the ends is in width more than depth, 11 mm against 20 mm, so the choice is about how much of the wound edge is held at once rather than how deep the retraction goes. Reversing to the wider end holds a longer stretch of margin with a single instrument instead of placing two. The short overall length keeps the whole thing within finger control, which is what a retractor at this scale needs.
