30 cm makes this one of the longest instruments in the range, and gluteal work is why. The pocket for an implant or fat graft extends well beyond what the incision exposes, and the whole dissection is done through that one opening — so the instrument has to reach the far margin while the surgeon’s hand stays outside the patient. A shorter dissector would require either a longer incision or working with the hand buried in the wound, blocking the light.
The duckbill tip is broad, flattened and blunt, and it separates by spreading rather than dividing. Gluteal tissue planes are loose but vascular, and a cutting instrument advanced blind through them finds vessels; a blunt wide tip pushes along the natural plane and displaces what it meets instead of transecting it. The width also means each pass separates a broad band, so a large pocket is created in relatively few strokes rather than many narrow tunnels that leave ridges between them.
