The curve on this blade is slight by design. A strongly curved elevator is built to reach around a corner; this one is shaped to stay in contact with a surface that is only gently convex — the nasal dorsum and sidewalls. Too much curvature would lift the working edge off the bone in the middle of a pass, and a perfectly straight blade would ride on its corners over the same contour. The small curve keeps the full 4.5 mm edge against the bone through the stroke.
4.5 mm is a narrow blade, matched to the scale of the nasal skeleton. Elevating periosteum here is done in a confined space between skin and bone where a wide blade cannot be angled, and the tissue being raised is thin enough that a broad instrument would tear rather than lift it. The gold-plated handle gives a distinguishable grip surface in a set where several elevators of similar size are laid out together and picked up by feel.
