Thirty teeth on a 15 cm body is the densest array in this range, and density is what it is for. Each additional point takes a share of the load, so tissue is held by a great many light contacts rather than a few firm ones — which is what allows a secure hold on tissue that would tear under a coarser jaw. The 4×5 Stille pattern does the same at a smaller scale; this one holds more, over a wider face, at slightly greater reach.
The overlap grip becomes more important as tooth count rises. Thirty teeth only work if all thirty land in their matching gaps, and any lateral deviation between the jaws throws the whole array out of register at once. Overlapping the jaws removes that degree of freedom. The wide serrated handle then lets the surgeon close steadily rather than forcefully, which is the correct technique for a jaw of this kind.
