An overlap grip is the feature worth knowing about. On an ordinary forceps the two jaws meet edge to edge, and under load they can slide past one another sideways — at which point the teeth miss and the tissue is released. Overlapping the jaws means one sits inside the other’s path, so they cannot deviate laterally however hard the instrument is squeezed. On a twenty-tooth array that matters, because every tooth has to land in its matching gap.
4×5 puts twenty points into a 12.7 cm instrument, which is dense for its size. The result holds firmly without the pressure a coarser jaw needs, and the short length keeps the whole thing under finger control. The wide serrated handle carries the rest: a multi-tooth jaw needs steady even closing rather than force, and a broad grip surface is what allows that to be maintained over a long procedure.
