Eyelid surgery combines two demands that usually pull against each other: the skin is the thinnest on the body, and it must be held under enough tension to be trimmed accurately. Nine rows of nine teeth resolve that by dividing the hold across eighty-one points, so the tension is real while the pressure at any one point stays below what marks the skin.
108 mm is short even for a facial instrument, and deliberately so. Blepharoplasty is judged on symmetry between two eyelids measured in millimetres, so the surgeon works from the fingers rather than the wrist. A short body sits entirely within the hand with no shaft acting as a lever, which keeps the tips moving only as far as the fingertips do.
