The 7×7 tooth array is what separates a Brown pattern from a standard Adson. Where a 1×2 forceps holds tissue at a single interlocking point, the Brown spreads the same grip across seven rows of seven fine teeth — so the holding force is divided many times over and no single point carries enough load to crush or perforate.
That is the whole reason the pattern exists. Skin flaps, thin fascia and delicate soft tissue need to be held securely under traction, but a coarse tooth in that tissue leaves a mark that persists. Many fine teeth achieve the same security by area rather than by pressure. The trade is that these teeth are shallow: they suit tissue, not heavy needles or dense scar, where a 1×2 pattern is the right instrument instead.
