The Takahashi Ethmoid Nasal Forceps differs from the standard Takahashi in jaw geometry: the cups are elongated rather than round. That shape suits ethmoid work, where the target is often a thin bony partition or a strip of diseased mucosa lining a cell wall, not a discrete mass. An elongated cup engages the full length of a partition in one bite.
The 45° up-turned pattern is the one that matters most in practice. Ethmoid cells extend superiorly toward the skull base, and a straight instrument approaches that tissue edge-on rather than face-on. The up-turn presents the jaw squarely to tissue above the shaft axis, which is both more effective and safer near the fovea ethmoidalis.
