The Knight Nasal Dressing Forceps has an unusually short working length — 57 mm against a 17.8 cm overall length. Most of the instrument is handle. That proportion is right for dressing work: packing and unpacking happen in the anterior and middle nasal cavity, not deep, and a short working segment gives the surgeon far more control over the fine positioning that placing a gauze strip requires.
The jaws are both serrated and ridged at 4.3 × 15.0 mm. Ridging across the jaw face adds a second axis of grip beyond the serrations, which is what stops a wet gauze strip from sliding lengthwise out of the jaws as it is fed into the nose. The same grip removes dried crusts and adherent packs without the material tearing apart mid-extraction.
